Chateau d'Artigny

Chateau d'Artigny began her life as a fortress during the Hundred Years War (1337 – 1453).

Parfumier Francois Coty did not approve of the 'restorations' over the years so in 1912,  commissioned the building of a new chateau in 18th century style.

He had grand visions for his chateau, which took 17 years to complete.

He only enjoyed 5 years there before his death, then the creditors stepped in.

However, World War II then swept across Europe and the Chateau was occupied by the Germans and was later an annex of the Tours Hospital (think Downton Abbey!) It returned to Coty's heir, his daughter Christiane in 1947.

In 1959 it was purchased by an hotelier with a grand vision and has been an hotel since 1961.
